The current narrative the media is reigning down on them is that they just. Don’t. Get it. What do they not get? That their users are in the street calling for… what exactly? Well, they don’t know, or at least no one’s willing to attempt to articulate it.
I saw a Facebook post earlier where an old school acquaintance asked “Let me ask Republicans this: How can you vote for Republicans knowing they stole Medicare and Social Security from the people who paid for it?” This C-average guy, living a C-average life went out and voted with a head full of CNN and the whole situation didn’t go to complete Hell because another group of idiots with heads full of Sean Hannity showed up and counteracted them.
Growing up I thought radios were just the things in your car. I thought AM radio was for old people. I thought they called it AM because old people got up so early in the morning. While I was writing it I kept coming up with increasingly ridiculous ways to make fun of the inevitable indifference to a short story written by me… about alien abductions.
It’s become clear to me that the reason the country is so divided isn’t because of Republicans or President Trump or even a particular hot button issue. The reason is because half the country learned about economics watching Sesame Street and about politics by watching Game of Thrones.
We won’t see a direct threat from artificial intelligence in our lifetimes. Not that it’s not worthy of discussing, after all it has been discussed and written about since the classic sci-fi era of the 1940s. It’s just that it’s not going to be this generations problem.
